In light of the recent merger between the PGA Tour and the DP World Tour, along with the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund’s (PIF) increasing influence, it’s a ripe time to tee off this blog and explore the evolving world of golf. Financially, the sport is about to play a whole new game. With new leagues like Tiger and Rory’s digital golf experience and LIV Golf (bankrolled by PIF), golf is ready to swing into a future that may not be bound by the economic and time constraints of the past.
I aim to maintain a neutral stance, much like the perfect golf swing, balanced and objective. I strive to understand the full scope of the game, just as a golfer studies a course before playing. My intent isn’t to take sides, but to provide fair and well-rounded insights.
This echoes Rory’s recent interview before the RBC Canadian Open, where he demonstrated a balanced understanding of the sport’s current debates. While he may not endorse all viewpoints, he clearly articulates his stance, setting a standard for other PGA Tour pros to follow.
For now, all tours, including the independent LIV tour, will continue with their respective schedules for the year.
The anticipated New World Tour* (working title) is soon to release its schedule, potentially offering us a preview of what this ‘golf tour grand slam’ might look like. Expect more than just traditional team golf—we might be in for some interesting rounds.
Here are some suggestions I’d like to pitch for the New World Tour*:
- Let professionals opt for shorts when the temperature climbs above 90 degrees. The specifics can be ironed out, but this option should be on the table.
- Boost the player count on the tour. If the tours have merged, the playing field just got a lot more competitive, particularly for those lower on the DP World Tour rankings.
- Roll out three events each week. The U.S. and Europe should each host an event, with the third serving as a wildcard—bringing a fresh spin to the game and helping it expand its global reach.
This third event could attract a worldwide audience, featuring top golfers and a range of exciting formats.
This is the direction I hope golf is heading. It’s an exciting time to be a part of the game, as we’re on the verge of a whole new ball game.
